Aromatherapy is one of the most popular forms of complementary treatment to help expectant mothers through the stresses, strains and discomforts of pregnancy, birth and into the first six months of motherhood. Every mother-to-be approaches pregnancy differently; some are excited and positive in their outlook, while others feel apprehensive stressed and worried. This course will teach you how to choose and use the fragrant, gentle essential oils. It will show you how aromatherapy can alleviate the discomforts of pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period, as well as how to treat the physical and wellbeing of the mother. We also cover Infertility and preconception.
Day 1
Introduction to aromatherapy in pregnancy and safety of oils in pregnancy.
Pregnancy; maternal changes and symptoms.
The role of the maternity care team, schemes of antenatal care etc
Labour: related anatomy and physiology.
Aims of labour care and delivery, pain relief, applying aromatherapy in labour.
Practical issues surrounding massage in pregnancy
Day 2
Postnatal care: changes in maternal physiology.
Care for breastfeeding mothers.
Physical and mental wellbeing in the newly delivered mother.
The newborn baby - anatomy and physiology, adaptation to life outside the womb, care of the newborn implications for therapists.
Intro to baby massage principles.
Infertility and preconception care using aromatherapy: a brief overview.
Practical massage using pregnancy oils.
Certificate
The Beaumont College certificate will be issued to all attendees.
