ARE YOU TIRED OF FEELING STRESSED OUT?

Floatation therapy has many benefits:

 The Float Room

Spacious and airy unlike traditional Floatation Tanks our floatroom is large and airy with a normal door, not a hatch, making it easy for young, old, the able and the less able to get in and out.
You have your own private changing space, power shower and lights inside that you control whilst floating even towel and toiletries are provided.
One of our friendly staff will introduce you to the floating experience. Forget your cares as you drift away. You spend a luxurious hour floating on an epsom salt solution only 10" deep but so dense that you cannot help but float effortlessly and spontaneously, like a cork. The solution is warmed to skin temperature and the room is insulated against light and sound providing a profoundly restful and stress relieving environment. Float room water is 99% sterile due to the high concentrations of salt. 100% sterility is achieved with a tiny amount of pool bromine—just 2 parts per million.
— FLOAT ROOM DIMENSIONS—
2.45m long, 1.35m wide, 2.15m high.

The float room has a very powerful pump, ensuring complete physically filtering of the entire solution several times between float sessions. The water is therefore clean and sterile every time anyone gets in. The float room is high enough to stand up in and there is a light control on the inside The spacious interior ensures you will not feel closed in. So people who might be worried about claustrophobia, can still experience a float and have control of their environment.

People might also be worried about their skin wrinkling but because the water contains high magnesium salt levels it doesn’t rob your skin of salt (which is what causes wrinkling). Rather, it leaves your skin soft and silky.

How Does Floating Effect The Body?

Floating is a method of attaining the deepest relaxation one can experience. In the gravity free environment the body balances and heals internally as all the senses are rested. Research shows that floating measurably reduces blood pressure and heart rate whilst lowering the levels of stress related chemicals in the body. Old injuries and aches, (especially backache) experience relief as floating helps blood circulation. Floating is used widely in the treatment of stress, anxiety, jet lag and to improve concentration and creativity. Sports performance and "wind down" is also enhanced during floating. Also, one hour of floating has the restorative effects of 4 hours of sleep!

How Does Floating Effect The Mind?

During a float, you produce slower brain-waves patterns, known as theta waves, (normally experienced only during deep meditation or just before falling asleep and when waking up). This is usually accompanied by vivid imagery, very clear, creative thoughts, sudden insights and inspirations or feelings of profound peace and joy, induced by the release of endorphins, the body's natural opiates. Because of these effects, floating is used effectively in the treatment of depression and addictions, including smoking and alcohol. It is also used for "Super Learning" courses by some American Universities.

 How Often Should You Float?

The more regularly you float the more effective it will be. Naturally you will notice the effects more quickly if you can float once a week but a monthly float will give you an ever increasing sense of well-being. You may need to float a few times before you are able to relax completely, both physically and mentally. A float might provide an hour of total physical relaxation - or a profound healing experience, emotionally and spiritually transforming.

FLOATATION GUIDELINES

Here is a prelude to help you to get the most from this wonderful therapy.

 Your First Float

Before you take your first float, there are several things for you to consider.
In a dark, quiet environment, you will be floating in “heavy“ water, heated to skin temperature. You will have the feeling of floating weightlessly in space. Your experience will depend on your state of mind and your expectations.

Reactions have ranged from euphoria to boredom; the most common response is deep relaxation. Knowing what to expect will make your experience a truly satisfying one.

Generally much of the first float is spent getting used to this new environment. It is a good idea to familiarise yourself with the surroundings right away.

You will be aware initially of your breathing and your heartbeat. This is a good sign! In the absence of external stimulation, this awareness will actually help you to relax.

During the relaxation process, you may be aware of the areas of your body that hold more tension and resist relaxation. Old injuries are often cushioned by the body’s tightening of the surrounding muscles.
Often the back of the neck is an area tension. Let your head fall back a little and your neck will relax. Don’t worry about your head. It will not sink. You may want to experiment with different arm positions to help you relax. There are several–at your sides, straight up over your head, or behind your neck.

 After Your Float

Always sit for at least ten minutes in reception after floating. This gentle transition back to the outside world is very important if you wish to gain the maximum benefit from your float. Just rushing out immediately will burn off many benefits before your nervous system has had a chance to integrate them–so a quiet period of relaxation is well worth it.

One float is beneficial but the benefits of floating are accumulative– the more you float the better it gets and each float is never the same as the next.

It does take three floats to really begin to get the most out of floating. You will probably find your second and third floats quite different from the first. Some reasons for this are: -

Relaxation is much deeper and more immediate.
You become more familiar with staff and procedures here and so you feel more at home.
There is an accumulative effect of previous floats.

Please rest as long as you wish in reception–complimentary herbal teas etc. are available.
